One of the businesses Care & Share is working with is Village Handcrafters. Village Handcrafters is a not-for-profit Christian agency working with impoverished churches in the Philippines .
Village Handcrafters takes poor workers and trains them in the making of beautiful hand-crafted papers that are acid-free. Village Handcrafters also makes hand-made soaps in a variety of fragrances and packages.
Village Handcrafters is pioneering an Ecologically Sustainable Community Model that incorporates:
• Meaningful work
• Organic food production and composting
• Waste water purification and recycling
• Aquaculture and Vermiculture (worms for improving soil quality)
• Schools & Health clinics
Village Handcrafters has grown from a backyard project to a current well equipped 12,000 square foot (1,100 square meters) factory located on one acre (4 hectare) in a slum area of Antipolo City .
When you purchase an item from Village Handcrafters you not only gain a unique handcrafted gift but you are directly helping the poor and the planet! |
