One of the businesses Care & Share is working with is Village Handcrafters.
Village Handcrafters is a not-for-profit Christian agency working with impoverished churches in the Philippines. Village Handcrafters takes poor workers and trains them in the making of beautiful hand-crafted papers that are acid-free. Village Handcrafters also makes hand-made soaps in a variety of fragrances and packages. Village Handcrafters is pioneering an Ecologically Sustainable Community Model that incorporates:
• Meaningful work
• Organic food production and composting
• Waste water purification and recycling
• Aquaculture and Vermiculture (worms for improving soil quality)
• Schools & Health clinics
Village Handcrafters have grown from a backyard project to a current well equipped 12,000 square foot (1,100 square meters) factory located on one acre (4 hectare) in a slum area of Antipolo City. When you purchase an item from Village Handcrafterss you not only gain a unique handcrafted gift but you are directly helping the poor and the planet!
IMPORTANT NOTICE
Palm oil is one of the main ingredients in the aromatherapy soaps made by Village Handcrafters. Palm oil production is a steady business within The Philippines, and one that has been well established for many years. Village Handcrafters works with a palm oil manufacturer that seeks to be environmentally friendly in all their practices, not only choosing not to farm land to plant more palm plantations, but ensuring that their refining processes are environmentally friendly. They are aware and take proactive steps to ensure that they are on the right side of all the current environmental issues. Village Handcrafters seeks to be environmentally friendly in all they do, including their choices of suppliers.
